UCaaS

Piggybacking off our previous blog post, let’s take a deeper look at one topic in particular. Unified Communications.

What is UCaaS?

First, we should ask ourselves, what is UCaaS?

Well, the acronym stands for Unified Communications as a Service, and it’s exactly what it sounds like.

UCaaS platforms encompass multiple mediums of communication into one. These are then sold as a service offering to people and businesses alike.

UCaaS generally consists of digital communication services such as: telephony, video conferencing, instant messaging, and more. All of these services are usually integrated into a single platform, and everything is cloud-based.

What are some examples of UCaaS?

Now, UCaaS is an emerging technology that has begun to see adoption on various platforms, and by various businesses around the world.

One of the largest platforms everyone knows about is Zoom. While Zoom has been around since 2011, their popularity as a platform picked up in the midst of the pandemic when everyone was working-from-home.

Zoom continues to be a popular platform to this day, simply due to the fact that many people and companies have kept their work-from-home status in place.

Now, Microsoft Teams is another UCaaS. After all, most companies that have a Microsoft 365 subscription have Teams. Teams offers much of the same functionality that Zoom does, but comes with some limitations.

At times, Teams has a tendency to be best suited for internal communications within an organization.

Whereas, Zoom is more accessible, and free for most users.

Why Should You Start Investing in a UCaaS?

Cloud Architecture

One benefit of a UCaaS platform is its reliance on the cloud. Cloud computing has revolutionized how modern businesses conduct business, and Unified Communications is no different.

The cloud-based infrastructure allows businesses to access everything they need with ease. Making calls, replying to messages, video chatting, etc. has never been easier. All that’s required in an internet connection.

Lower Cost

Next, another big benefit of a platform like this is cost savings. Most Unified Communication platforms are low cost. Teams for example, is bundled into office 365. And Zoom is free for video chatting.

Additionally, businesses can forgo investing in expensive equipment needed to host their own video, voice, and messaging service. Everything is hosted by a provider off-site.

Ease of Use

Lastly, UCaaS platforms are very easy to use. Most platforms require users to install a program, and that’s usually it. They might need to configure some settings to their needs, but they’re not difficult to set.

Voice, video, email and messaging are embodied in one system, making it easy to seamlessly switch between them.

In all, these platforms are very easy to install, configure, and use.

Ending Thoughts

As you can see, UCaaS is fairly straightforward to understand. It combines the various forms of digital communication into one platform that is easy to access, easy to use, and can lower costs.

Based in this, it’s not hard to see why Unified Communications has and will continue to stick around for the foreseeable future.
