What VoIP Services Do I Need For My Business?

Types of VoIP

Over the course of our previous blog posts, we have talked a lot about the different types of VoIP services, and what they do. However, what we haven’t discussed yet is “what VoIP services do I need for my business?” In this blog post, we will dissect some of most notable services to determine which ones are the best for certain types of businesses.

To start, many of the VoIP services offered by most VoIP providers are relevant to all different types of businesses. For example, whether your business or company is large or small, all businesses need a phone. This one is relatively self explanatory. However, something like a CCaaS system is generally better reserved for a larger company that needs customer service staff on call.

Hosted VoIP

As I mentioned, phone services are a generally universal service that pretty much every business needs regardless of size. Where a service like this does differ is the quantity of phones as well as the specifics of the phone plan you choose.

For example, a small boutique clothing store might only need one business phone and a basic VoIP plan. A larger business with an entire network of employees and offices would require more phones and a VoIP plan with more features.

Business SMS

Business SMS is another service that many businesses might want to consider. While not necessary for all businesses, a business that values flexibly and convenience might find value in a service like this.

For example, a hair salon might invest in a business SMS as a way to send text reminders to customers about upcoming appointments. Just as a large financial services firm might benefit from a business SMS to let clients know that funds have been transferred from one account to another.

Video & Audio Conferencing

Business video & audio conferencing solutions are another great service that certain businesses might want to take advantage of. However, larger businesses might find more value in a service like this opposed to a smaller local business for example.

Video and audio conferencing solutions are especially handy for companies with a large amount of employees, or companies that rely frequently on team based projects.

Online Fax

Online Fax is more of a special case scenario. While we have discussed the need for businesses to continue having fax solutions. Some businesses might not benefit as much from this service. However, for businesses that need to comply with regulatory requirements, such as a hospital. An online fax solution is required. This can also go for companies that handle a lot of documentation in general.

Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS)

One of the last VoIP services I’d like to discuss is CCaaS. We have an entire blog post dedicated to this topic, but I felt the need to include it on this list, as it can be a good service option for certain businesses.

CCaaS is a service that allows businesses to reduce the need for expensive telecom equipment by upgrading to an entirely cloud based call center infrastructure. A smaller business such as a local flower shop has no need for a CCaaS. However, where CCaaS does excel is in large companies that require customer support agents.

CCaaS gives larger companies the flexibility to operate their call centers the way they see fit, as well as allowing them plenty of customizability to tailor their call center systems to their specific needs.

Ending Thoughts

In all, there are many businesses both big and small that can benefit from the various VoIP services I discussed throughout this post. Hosted VoIP phone systems for example, are a tool that every business really should have. Whereas, a service such as a CCaaS is better integrated into a large company.

In the end, determining what type of VoIP services you want for your business all boils down to what your business’s needs are. However, a business phone is usually a good place to start.
